The Wisconsin International Poultry club held their annual fall show at Portage, Wisconsin on September 26-27, 2009 at the fairgrounds.
When we got back at the show, the judging was coming along as the judges were Tim Bowles (Ohio), Bart Pals (Iowa) Gary Overton (Ohio) and Dennis Thompson (Iowa) for the open show and Tyler Danke judging the juniors along with the open show judges.
The Wisconsin International Poultry Club were host to the International Waterfowl Breeders Association National Meet and it was very well attended. Lots and lots of ducks and geese and some top notch exhibitors who showed at the show. Waterfowl is always a big part of this show year end and year out.
This show is well run every year and they always do a great job and everything runs like clockwork. They had everything done by 4:30 pm including the Grand Champions and they announced the winners at their get together on Saturday night. They didn’t have a banquet because lots of people would just rather go out and eat where they want to and visit with their friends and family.
The Wisconsin International Poultry Club junior show is always huge with Barb Gromacki running the Wisconsin Junior Program and you know that it’s going to be great. She has been doing this for a lot of years and even longer than the ABA-APA Youth Program. A lot of the young adults who has gone through the Wisconsin Program are some of the top in the nation. They have all kind of projects for the Juniors – The Future of the Fancy to do all weekend. Keeping the young adults busy keeps them out of trouble! That’s what it’s all about!
The “Friends of Wisconsin” always honor someone at the show and this year was no different. This year they honored Rev. Paul Ashbrook. Before he moved to Washington, he was secretary of the Wisconsin International Poultry Club and he is back living in Ohio and he and wife Mary came up to visit with their families and show their birds at the show. It was quite an honor for Rev. Paul and as usual he was his humble self.
The Wisconsin International Poultry Club always have several special awards at their show honoring some of their members who have passed away. It is a very nice thing to do in their memory.
